psychonauts
If you are going to pick up an old game, you may as well go to pick up one of the greatest ever made. For those of you who have never encountered the game, that comment may seem a little strong, but for those of you who have, I’m sure you’ll agree it is spot on.

So, let’s stop beating around the bush and beat our way into the storage container of affordably priced digital entertainment, or, for those of you (unlike me) who don’t have thesaurus.com as their homepage, the bargain bin, as we take a journey back to Psychonauts.

I feel as if, from the get-go, I had a completely different expectation as to what this game would offer me. Part of it is the title: there are magicians, but there’s not exactly much magicking; there are “Mysterious Times”, but rather than the times our characters live in being mysterious, there is quite literally a “Mystery Time” each week. More importantly, though, there are no ‘Quests.’ Or, maybe there are – I didn’t finish the game (and there’s a very good reason why), but I played the game for almost two months without finding a single ‘Quest’.

Still, I shouldn’t judge a book by its cover. Just because the name is misleading doesn’t mean the game should be excluded from getting a fair critique, and Magician’s Quest Mysterious Times is no exception. So, let’s get started, shall we?

I just want to get this off my chest, I barely know anything about The Punisher.  What I do know is that I enjoy FPS and I am a big fan of bargain bins.  Let’s say the bargain bin was participating in a sporting event, I would be the guy on the sideline dressed head to toe in bargain bin paraphernalia.  We can take this logic and apply it to the downloadable market as well, because honestly, I love downloadable games.  There are a bunch of gems out there floating around in the virtual arcades that offer players more than they pay for.  Sadly, the opposite is true as well and some games are rushed or offer exactly what the price tag dictates, $9.99 or 800 Microsoft points or 1000 Nintendo points, and The Punisher: No Mercy is no exception.

Warning: This review covers an extremely violent and vulgar game and the content of this article is going to reflect that. Read more… »

Confidence in the banking system is key to financial stability.  Without this confidence any monetary system would fall into crisis and ultimately fail.  As it turns out, the MMO Eve Online is no different.

One of the games largest financially institutions had 8% of its 2.6 trillion kredits stolen, resulting in many players rushing to the bank to retrieve their in game money; producing a unique financial crisis from within Eve. Read more… »

My experience with pinball is limited to my childhood, where each table competed in an intricate quarter based food web that consisted of gumball machines, temporary tattoo dispensers, and Rampage. As a young boy with but a single quarter to spare, I would almost always dispense it in the machine that provided the longest distraction, which was invariably not pinball.

For me, my time at a table would rarely last longer than few minutes, and I would often leave it feeling cheated -success seemed random, and I was never certain what I was doing wrong. The high scores that displayed upon my inevitable failure did little to inspire me – their values were exponentially greater than mine, and altogether unreachable. Zen Pinball replicates this experience to the letter.

When Gas Powered Games’ recently released RTS/RPG hybrid Demigod was launched, connection and matching problems crippled its ability to operate from Day 1. Frustrated and angry gamers flooded the developers forums, baring for blood, as the multiplayer-only title was unable to deliver on its main event.

In this frantic rush to save their game from market dissolution, GPG turned to GameRanger Technologies, developer of online gaming matchmaking service GameRanger, to solve its pressing connectivity issues and get their customers… well.. gaming again. It worked. So well in fact that even after GPG had repaired its software, many still preferred to use the alternative.

A modern day Kali? Intrigued, I dug deeper to find out more.

Fallout 3 is one of those games where almost anyone can find something they love in it.  It’s a great role playing game with shooting elements, and an atmosphere which will immerse you for hours upon end. If you don’t own it, you’re pretty much in the minority.  If this is you though, you’re in luck!  This weekend Valve is offering a chance for non-Fallout 3 owners to redeem themselves.

It’s quite interesting. Despite all of the hubaloo surrounding the Left 4 Dead 2 boycott, the pre-orders for Valve’s upcoming sequel are twice what they were this time last year.

Beauty can hold many definitions for different people. It can be used to describe a significant other, a cascading summer sunset, a serene, translucent lake. Or, if you’re like me, beauty revives memories of Ali and Frazier dancing around the ring and trading blows to the head. Memories of Jake LaMotta standing his ground, taking the beating of his life, but dishing it out three fold. Memories of jaw-dropping visuals. This was most people’s first experience with true, HD graphics that left millions awestruck through the sheer awesomeness that was Fight Night Round 3.

Here we are three years later, with EA Canada taking up the reigns from now defunct EA Chicago. Can Fight Night Round 4 recapture this beauty that left millions of gamers clamoring for more pound-for-pound action? Read more… »

One of the most exciting things about Super Mario Galaxy was all the news suits and power-ups; ranging from springs to bumble-bees, there were plenty of surprises to be found.
