While not giving away too much, this clip does kind of spoil a couple of story elements that lead our main man Ezio down the road to becoming a deadly assassin.

teamfortress-2

If any of you have played competitive Team Fortress 2, or any Valve game for that matter, you know how much of a pain in the butt it is to record a demo. It seems that Valve knows the old demo format isn’t up to snuff, which is why the company is working on a new format for Team Fortress 2 demos.

Valve developer Robin Walker stated, “The idea is that after you die or finish a round, and it was a round you were particularly happy with (maybe you scored an awesome kill, or saved the entire team with an ubercharge), you can ask the server to send you a demo of it. The server then sends you a demo that it recorded, which has the complete game state instead of just what your client saw, and it’s in a format that’s robust and won’t break as easily when we update the game. In addition, the format has a some side benefits, like supporting full backwards & forwards time scrubbing.” The best part is, “It’s getting close to being releasable in a beta form.” Read more… »

From the looks of things, PC gamers might be waiting a little longer than their console compatriots when it comes to Remedy’s Alan Wake.

According to a post made on Remedy’s message board by “MarkusRMD,” an employee at Remedy, “We’re focusing all our efforts on the 360 version and will be making comments in regards to the PC at a later in time.” While this isn’t damning evidence of a delayed PC release, it does help fill in a larger picture. During this past E3, publisher Microsoft announced that Alan Wake would arrive on the Xbox 360 “spring 2010.” There was no mention of a PC release date, reinforcing the idea of a delayed PC launch. Sales figures are not something that should take up too much of any gamer’s time. Unless, of course, you own shares in a company, work within one or are concentrating your attention on a small or enormous business that you hope will earn enough cash to make ends meet, resulting in more juicy games to play.

Having said that, hit the jump and check out this list of top-selling games from the first half of 2009 in the UK!

optimusI would love to start this review by stating that the days of rushed games, as movie tie-in cash cows, are over. I would love to say that like the Wolverine game, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen is sitting in a category of “games that are greatly better than the movies they are based on.” However, none of that is true. I could say this is a below average game that reeks of rushing to meet the movie’s release. That would be true. Read more… »

left4dead2cemetary

In a recent interview, Valve’s marketing VP Doug Lombardi stated that gamers who pre-order Left 4 Dead 2 from “participating retailers or Steam” will receive “advanced access to the demo.”

Sounds like a good deal to me. Valve did this same kind of thing when the first Left 4 Dead was coming out. I really appreciate the whole pre-order to get early access kind of thing. It shows that Valve knows their customers. There are some people, myself included, who are going to buy L4D2 no matter what. It’s nice to know that Valve recognizes these customers and hooks us up with a demo to help ease the wait. Read more… »

As video gaming becomes increasingly accessible and ventures further into mainstream culture, it would seem only natural that eSports follow suit. One organisation keen to help this happen is The United Kindgom eSports Association (UKeSA), who organise and deliver gaming tournaments across many platforms and even more gaming genres – from sports sims like FIFA 09 to FPS shooters like Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare. On top of this, they are currently laying the foundations for GameOn!, an event that promises to set a new benchmark for UK video game expos.

Mike Benbenek is one of the figures at the forefront of this operation and was kind enough to enlighten us on what the future holds for eSports, why the entrance age needs to be higher and how gaming is comparable to sex in the UK… hit the jump to read the full interview.

Every six months or so, hardcore World of Warcraft players anxiously await their new lord and savior: an up-and-coming MMO to deliver them from their addiction. Unfortunately, the overwhelming majority of these games, despite their unbelievable hype as the “great hope” fail miserably. As a former WoW raider, I remember Age of Conan and Warhammer’s promises of a better virtual world that were never fulfilled.

Aion, the newest MMO on the block, promises exciting gameplay and a beautiful visual style. Oh yea, and you can fly. Is it everything its cracked up to be? Read my impressions of the beta, and find out. Read more… »

There are days out there when I’ll just sit on my couch and stare at my game collection.  I look at the PS3, Wii, Xbox 360, and dead Xbox 360 just resting (in peace) by the TV. Next to my TV is a bookshelf full of the games that I have accumulated over the years, and immediately to the left is a side table with a PSP and DS just lying there.

These days are full of admiration and disgust for me.  I have a game collection anyone would be proud of, but when I think back to my time in Cambodia, I can’t help but feel a little guilty.

project_natal_1

Whenever I think about Project Natal, it emits wavelengths that my brain determines to be a threat, and it sends a tremor of skepticism down my spine.  You see, something like Project Natal has the capability of completely changing interactive entertainment, and bringing it, as Wolfmother says, “into another dimension.”  What I’m worried about, which all of you should be, is that Project Natal is going to be reduced to nothing but Mario Party, the console.

The biggest indicator that their, I guess present, plans to use Project Natal is in the little demo video they showed us.  No, not Milo.  That’s a different monster.  I’m talking about the one with the all too excited family.  Everything they showed was (I know its early) garbage.  The one that really frustrated me was the martial arts video.  If the camera is translating your moves exactly, then your skill is going to be determined by your actual fighting ability.  Read more… »
