Update: Take-Two CEO Ben Feder stated that BioShock 2 will be released within the first half of “calendar 2010.”

Much to the dismay of gamers everywhere, today Take-Two announced that it has pushed BioShock 2 back to its 2010 fiscal year. Originally slated to arrive Nov.  3, BioShock 2 now can pop up anytime from Oct. 31, 2009 to Jan. 1, 2010.

Strauss Zelnick, Take-Two’s chairman, stated: “We concluded that moving the release of BioShock 2 into fiscal year 2010 was the right decision for the product. We believe the result will be a more compelling consumer experience and a better performing product in the marketplace.” Read more… »

Getting Fallout 3 DLC on the PlayStation 3 has been troublesome for Bethesda Softworks. The developer originally planned on releasing the first batch of DLC last month. Apparently something went wrong because now Bethesda is expecting the first batch of DLC for Fallout 3 on the PS3 “by the end of September.”

Producer Ashley Cheng explained the delays . “Keep in mind that not only do we need to test each DLC on PS3, we also need to test each DLC when used in conjunction with each of the other DLC, as well as all of them together, along with the entire original game.” Read more… »

Gamer Limit Review: Freerealms

As of the 1st of July, Sony Online Entertainment’s Free Realms had hit the staggering number of four million user sign-ups since its launch on April 29th of this year. So what’s all the fuss about?

The game is somewhat of an online “gateway drug” for players. Aimed primarily at younger children who do not have much, if any experience of the genre.  Playing the standard game is completely free, although some of the quests and job classes are only available to those who pay the monthly subscription on offer. Along with subscriptions, SOE make their money from micro transactions. Players can buy weapons, clothes, items and even a pet using their (or their parent’s) credit card. Read more… »

I consider myself to be a man of fairly average intelligence. I only wear a helmet when the occasion  calls for it, and the bus I rode to school was the traditional length. I test well, I received exemplary grades all throughout my educational career – so why is it then that I’m absolutely dreadful when it comes to puzzle games?

You would think that if I’m capable of determining the value of x, I’d also be able to form a row of blocks in Tetris, or group the matching gems in Bejeweled - but that’s simply not the case. Read more… »

July introduced more goodies for Final Fantasy 4: The After Years, including three new quests: one for Yang, the karate master of the kingdom of Fabul: Palom, the arrogant black magic prodigy of the magedom of Mysidia; and Edge: the young king of the ninja kingdom of Eblan.

Each quest costs 300 Wii Points ($3 USD), and is completely optional to the main game; only the main quest (bought for 800 Wii Points) and the final chapter, which will be released in September for 800 Wii Points, are necessary. These quests are here to supplement the story and allow you to get levels and items for the characters before they inevitably meet up and save the world. Since they’re optional, the real question is “Are the quests fun?”

Where would we be without Guitar Hero? When the series launched back in 2005, it was revolutionary to the genre and proved to be a surprise overnight hit. Music lovers were left with glee over the prospect of rocking out to their most heartfelt tracks, whereas musicians who could actually play the very instrument the game was simulating reviled in all of its pointlessness.  But then they completely missed the point – Guitar Hero was a unique, fun and highly addicting game experience that made you feel like a true rock star at its peak. Or it just made you look like a drunken, plastic guitar wielding berk at the same time.

Since then, we have been fed wave after wave of Guitar Hero to the point that you suffer from chronic indigestion. In the space of 4 years, Guitar Hero effectively, and indefinitely, saturated the market, and so to celebrate we now have Guitar Hero: Greatest Hits (or Smash Hits if you reside on the west side), a cunning compilation album of sorts. Greatest Hits albums are often released at the tail end of an artist’s career however, so it is almost puzzling as to why we have been presented with a best of Guitar Hero at this stage when you consider that another successor is shortly on its way.  And let’s not forget the forthcoming spin-offs.

So, is Greatest Hits a riff roaring success or has the Guitar Hero cash cow been miraculously milked beyond its limit?

Lately I’ve been suffering from an unhealthy obsession with Starcraft 2. The affliction came to a head a few weeks ago when I wrote an article listing the 20 things I’d do for a Starcraft 2 beta key. I held no punches – I offered to give up my firstborn child,  finish development of Duke Nuke’m Forever, and even divide by zero.  A few days later, Blizzard Entertainment attempted to call my bluff by e-mailing the following taunt:

“When we were checking out your site, we noticed one of your writers, Josh Quinnet, posted about the 20 things he would do for a beta key.

So, if you would like to give him a key, we would like photographic evidence of the following:

Josh eating a grapefruit covered with Jif peanut butter while watching Flavor of Love with his StarCraft II tattoo showing [drawn of course...]. Both seasons would be preferred, but I guess we could settle with season 1. And please let him know that pie is indeed better than cake.”

Well, Blizzard. Challenge accepted.

Ever since The Conduit was revealed last year, it has been heralded as the FPS savior for the Nintendo Wii. It has also been touted as a true hardcore game for a console that drowns in shovelware and self-help games.

Well, The Conduit is finally upon us and we’ve taken a taste of the hype-basted buffet. Was it worth the wait or does this motion controlled FPS leave us with motion sickness? Read more… »

What would you get if you tried to combine Disney’s Hercules films and Mario Kart? Other than a copyright-infringement lawsuit, the likely result would be Heracles Chariot Racing, a WiiWare and PS2 game from Neko Entertainment.

As may be inferred from the title, the game involves Heracles engaging in a brutal contest of will, strength and skill, driving horseless chariots around whimsically designed courses and lobbing deadly weapons at each other in pursuit of victory. But how does it stack up against its competitors and the rest of the WiiWare crowd?

Readers, I have something to admit to you. It’s not easy, but I have never played a single Worms title. Of course, I remember the glory days of the two tanks blasting each other on my PC monitor at school, and to your certain dismay, the reboot of that classic has never graced my home desktop or my console.  However, those days are over and I’m finally ready to open a can of Worms 2: Armageddon.

So, hit the jump if you want to live.
