Most gamers all have completely different opinions when it comes to Xbox 360 achievements and PS3 trophies.  Some like them, some hate them and some just don’t really care.  One reason you see so many different opinions is because gamers can’t seem to decide whether achievements actually enhance the game play experience or not.  A large percentage of achievements are simply “busy work achievements”, which require more of a time investment then a skill investment.

Everyone once in a while though, an achievement comes along which totally changes the way a person must play a game.  To find out more about these types of achievements, hit the jump.

game-over1

I don’t remember much of the late ‘80s or early ‘90s. Much of what I do remember consists of dull family holidays, punctuated by joyful trips to the amusement arcades.

It was my oasis in the barren desert of youth; the eye in the tempestuous hurricane of family tiffs and tantrums. Read more… »

A somewhat lackluster update this week, but let’s face it – everyone is going to be far too engrossed in the phenominally entertaining Battlefield 1942 to really notice. The only noteworthy content comes from a demo of Trash Panic and some Ghostbusters DLC for LittleBigPlanet, along with the obligatory Guitar Hero: World Tour and Rock Band DLC packs.

Read on for this week’s update in full.

Today Treyarch announced that the PC version of Call of Duty: World at War will receive the 1.5 patch tomorrow. The best part is, the patch includes Map Pack 2 for free.

Map Pack two, which has sold over one million copies, brings three new multiplayer maps, along with a new zombie mode map. Many attribute Call of Duty: World at War’s popularity to its Nazi Zombie mode. As someone who plays it quite frequently, I must say there is something so very satisfying about repelling wave after wave of zombies.

marvelvscapcom2

Remember when Capcom said the “PSN date to be announced soon,” regarding Marvel vs. Capcom 2? Well, today Capcom made good on their promise by announcing that the super hero smack down will arrive August 13, two weeks after the Xbox 360 release.

Many suspect that the delayed PS3 release is due to a rumored retail pack. If the rumors are true, PS3 owners will have the option to pay $20, compared to the XBLA/PSN price tag of $15, for a DVD with exclusive wallpapers, an 8-page manual, one month of access to Marvel Digital Comics and 2,000 Capcom Unity points. secondhand

There is a small amount of consistent debate around used game sales, and the idea that it’s one of the reasons developers are losing money. You don’t have to be an economist or some kind of market analyst to realise this is a completely ridiculous statement. Almost every industry, from cars, to furniture, to books, all have second-hand markets.

People have been re-selling their old goods since open markets were established in BC. So why should the games industry be any different, and how come games developers, who tend to be reasonably more opinionated then most content producers, are getting so enraged about it when no-one else does?

Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet has certainly blind sighted me, I had never heard of the game before seeing this trailer. It’s certainly my favourite video for July, maybe even for this year.
