Update: Take-Two CEO Ben Feder stated that BioShock 2 will be released within the first half of “calendar 2010.”

Much to the dismay of gamers everywhere, today Take-Two announced that it has pushed BioShock 2 back to its 2010 fiscal year. Originally slated to arrive Nov.  3, BioShock 2 now can pop up anytime from Oct. 31, 2009 to Jan. 1, 2010.

Strauss Zelnick, Take-Two’s chairman, stated: “We concluded that moving the release of BioShock 2 into fiscal year 2010 was the right decision for the product. We believe the result will be a more compelling consumer experience and a better performing product in the marketplace.”

Take-Two CEO Ben Feder added, “The decision to shift a release date is never an easy one, especially with a product as highly anticipated as BioShock 2. We felt that it was essential to invest the additional time to ensure that this title will deliver what its fans expect and deserve.”

As more details arrive, you can be sure I’ll post them here on GamerLimit.

  1. This is GREAT news. Do you know how much of a relief it is to know that my holiday gaming list just got a little bit shorter. This holiday season was already starting to look as packed as usual, with a ton of high profile games like Assassin’s Creed 2 and Modern Warfare 2 coming out within weeks of each other. It will be nice to have one less game on that list.

Also, if the designers need more time to get this game right, I agree that they should take it. Take as much time as they want for all I care. They are making a sequal to one of the best FPS’s of this current generation, and it needs to be great.

  2. Agreed, Silver!

Assassin’s Creed 2, Borderlands, Brutal Legend, Dragon Age : Origins, Demon’s Souls. . . it’s gonna be a packed holiday as it is.

I hope that the additional time is spent making the dialogue, backstory, and environment as rich as possible. . . without Ken Levine at the helm I’m crossing my fingers for this one.
