Achievement: A Grievance

achievement-unlocked

I remember a time when gaming was some vast and verdant landscape of plenty where the promise of every game born would be one of pink cheeked wonder and curly haired delight, each fat little ankled faltering step one of deft exploration and obtuse defiance as podgy round hands pounded away at the boundaries of expectation.

And as if in homage to Ole Father Time each new generation has been greeted with the birthing of yet another mewling example of defective birth control, celebrated by the consumption of the previous generations offspring in the form of lessons learned and benchmarks set and possibly some Hundreds and Thousands on top.

Every once in a while, a game will come along and blow everything you knew about a particular genre out of the water. For instance, remember the first time you played Portal? Do you recall that complete sense of awe you had when attempting to unlock the secrets of using both color portals at once? What about the complete feeling of satisfaction you receive when you finally figure it out?

Knights in the Nightmare re-creates that same feeling with the Strategy RPG genre. Enter a world where Strategy and Shoot ‘Em Ups collide. Read more… »

R.I.P. Xbox 360 Coffin
By: | June 9th, 2009

coffin2

Who would’ve ever thought that the coffin would be put to rest? Kind of ironic, isn’t it? I’ve gotten two of these coffins, and am honestly not sad to see them go by the wayside. Perhaps this is a sign that they’ve got their hardware issues under control?

Joystiq has reported that you’ll be packing up your RRoD, or E74′d Xbox 360 all by yourself. On the flip side, Microsoft will still be paying for the shipping costs, but you’ll provide the box.

With over 17,000 people complaining about the mere existence of Left 4 Dead 2, its no surprise that Valve is reaching out to smooth over some rough waters. While I think this boycott is ridiculous, some people do not agree with that. In order to be fair, I’ll save my witless banter for an upcoming feature and just let you know what Valve has said about this boycott.

uncharted2trailerhdgrab

My first, and only, play through of Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune is one on my favorite experiences with my PS3.  It isn’t the greatest thing that ever happened to the system (that would be the blu-ray player), but it’s one of the most entertaining action/adventure games and the sequel is looking to improve upon it in every way.

The biggest problem with Uncharted was that after beating the game, there wasn’t much to do afterward.  Uncharted 2 is looking to fix that with the addition of a new multiplayer mode.  Fearing that it would be a Gears of War clone, I waited impatiently in line and gripped the controller like I was getting ready to drive for the first time. Moshe Kai Cavalin, an 11 year old graduate from East Los Angeles College is an intelligent kid with big ambitions.  The hardworking prodigy may be a super human, but lacks enthusiasm towards video games because they are a waste of time.  C’mon kid, you may be intelligent, but you’re still 11.  We all know you get giddy pwning noobs at Mario Kart. floridasupercon-008

If there was a waiting room in the memory banks of your PS3, Wii, or Xbox360, where videogame characters mingled with the stars of sci-fi, comics and anime before taking their turn on the TV screen, it would look something like the Florida Supercon.

This years convention, held in Miami, Florida, was no different, except for the undeniable impact video game culture continues to have on an event that was once solely dominated by comic book art and memorabilia.

I, armed with my GL Press Pass, decided to get an inside perspective into what made these rabid fans tick.

pc1

You delve into the remnants of your mother’s last possessions; only to find a folder of lost archives from your long lost father telling you to burn the notes and never to seek his disappearance.  What do you do?  You travel to Greenland where hell has apparently frozen over, and all that remains is an abandoned base where evil lurks.  Sounds reasonable to me. perfect-dark-xbla

If you were to name your top five games on the Nintendo 64, Perfect Dark is more than likely somewhere on that list. Fans felt a defeated when they were told Goldeneye may never see the light of day on our newest consoles, but these latest screens, and details of Perfect Dark for Xbox Live Arcade are enough to make up for any of that.

The game will include the four-player multiplayer you’ve come to expect from the title, along with all the bots you had from the single analog stick days. Although it has yet to be confirmed whether or not the cooperative play is online, the offline is still there. Perhaps the biggest news to reach our ears is something many of us expected, but were not sure would come to fruition.
