It is a sad state of affairs when there is an immediate outcry from gamers that tears the innermost joy from their souls and rips it asunder over a bed of hot coals. The big switch was just flipped, and Xbox Live is now down for up to twenty-four hours. This downtime includes Xbox.com’s My Xbox section, and the forums will be read-only.

We’ll be sure to let you know when it is back online. Until then, we’ve made a list of things you could do in lieu of LIVE being updated…

StreetFighter4

After hearing about how great and exciting Street Fighter 4 is for the Xbox 360 and PS3, many PC gamers were left to sit at their lonely desks, surfing the web, and piecing pictures together of the game in hopes of experiencing the greatness.  Well look no further, because in two weeks, Street Fighter 4 will be exploding on monitors everywhere.

The benchmark tools were just released, and now PC enthusiasts have less than 15 days to get their PCs up to par.  Read more… »

Coming to the XBLA today are two highly polished games, Sam & Max Save the World, and the game I’ve personally been holding out for: Magic: The Gathering – Duels of the Planeswalkers.

It’s always sad when decent games are selling poorly, but even sadder when bad games are breaking the bank.

droplitz_screens_iphone_05

The name of Atlus’ new “casual” puzzle game just sounds like candy. Personally, I could go for some lemony “droplitz” right now. Droplitz the game (not the lemony goodness) will be released on the iPhone, PSN, XBLA, and PC.

Atlus tells us the iPhone version will be $1.99. Hit the jump for the full press release, and more delicious screens. Read more… »

Finish this sentence, only apply it to gaming: “Wouldn’t it be so awesome if…”. If you’ve sat around a table with gaming friends, this conversation has likely come up more than once.

Let me take it a set further and ask, “What if this developer made that game?”. It wouldn’t matter if someone specifically developed for only one platform. There are no rules, no boundaries; only imagination.

(Editor’s note: Since we have two massive Burnout enthusiasts on the crew, and they both wanted to write their own perspective… just to spice up Gamer Limit…we let them.)

Martin Bigg: It’s been nearly 18 months since Burnout Paradise was first let loose, so it is a testament to Criterion’s dedication to the franchise that they are still continually supporting the game at this point. 2009 has been awashed with a stash of premium content to download, but unfortunately some of these packs have only highlighted Burnout’s turn to the dark side that is EA, with their tendency to stamp substantial prices on subpar content. The pricing, for what has essentially been existing car models resprayed with new liveries and a few gimmicky abilities for the most part, has indeed been questionable, especially when content such as Burnout Bikes was available for free prior to this.

Big Surf Island therefore marks Criterion’s latest endeavour into the increasingly profitable DLC market, and has been by far and away the most sought after release since the entire raft of DLC was first mapped out. But is it worth the price of the admission this time?

Hit absolutely any gaming site through any social networking portal, whether it be N4G, Digg, Stumbleupon and so on, and it’s incredibly likely that you are going to encounter at least one, if not more, Top 10 articles. Am I honestly the only gamer who cannot stand the sight of these complete wastes of virtual space?

Not only are lists the most lazy form of filler, they contribute nothing of any value to the general information highway, or news stream. More importantly, they’re a symbol of how the new media landscape is forcing writers to spend less time on writing quality articles and more time pushing out an alarming amount of junk for the sake of hits.

ea-active

Even though EA Sports Active is primarily marketed towards women, you should not be put off by it even if you’re a man. This is a tool which will definitely make you sweat and probably prevent you from walking the next day

I run marathons for a sport, and I get paid to make people do push ups. Needless to say, when I first booted up Active I was pretty cocky. I immediately placed the game on its hardest setting and received a fairly large shock in return. Active dominated me.

The people over at One Last Continue managed to dig up a juicy find from the ESRB website, they found that Final Fantasy Tactics has now been rated for the PSP and PlayStation 3.

What does this? It means it’s pretty damn likely we will see a FF:T release soon on the PSN.

The_Beatles_._Yesterday

We’ve had it with the people who make these track listings for rhythm/music/band games! Does no one at all use any form of common sense when creating them? The list for The Beatles Rockband has been released and there is no Yellow Submarine! Not only are we dissapointed that this song is lacking inclusion, but we are also disheartened that the list is so short! Check it out after the break, and feel our loss!

(Update) Harmonix has confirmed that this leaked list is not the final track listing for The Beatles Rockband.

doom

The thing about great graphics is that they have a habit of being too good. There they are in glorious 1080p, slapping you in the face and squeezing your bum cheeks until your eyes water with joy. In some cases, the detail is such that you’ll feel like you are leading a double life – a part-time human with a job, an angry cat and phone bill and a part-time supercharged weapon of death, wreaking havoc on slimy things with red eyes. It’s a good life if you can get it.
