With Call of Duty 4 reaching over eighteen million fans, it is no surprise that Activision is trying to squeeze every bit possible out of this market of hardcore shooter fans of as much cash as possible.

An MMO, or even an “online shell” would drastically change the interface for Call of Duty and perhaps even the number of players who play it. It’s a dangerous game, changing something so solid, but enough rumors are beginning to surface to bring some validity to the claim.

Activision’s Bobby Kotick took it a step further at the Morgan Stanley Technical Conference when he said, “when you think about other properties that we own and control, like Call of Duty, and what would be the natural evolution of a property like Call of Duty into a massively multiplayer environment, and how do you monetize that,”

Is this a hint of things to come? Impending doom for the millions of Call of Duty fans? The end of the world as we know it? Stay tuned as we churn up more information.
