Amidst the over-40 million iPhones and iPod Touch devices sold globally is the sudden realization that the iPhone platform might just make for a viable and lucrative gaming engine.
Developers and publishers are taking notice. Ngmoco, publisher of iPhone titles like Rolando, Star Defense, and Drop Ship, recently scooped up Sega President Simon Jeffrey. Jeffery, a longtime member of the video game industry, is to be heading Ngmoco’s new publishing arm.
In an interview with Gamasutra, Jeffery notes that a developing trend in the video game industry isn’t one marked towards developing the next Halo 3 but instead one where developers are to create hugely sucessful games on not-so-huge budgets. He applauds the trend, making his new position at one of the more sucessful iPhone gaming companies a good match for the 22-year industry veterern.
