The entire backwards compatibility issue surrounding the Playstation 3 has been a burden to bear for a lot of Sony gamers. Some have bought a PS3, expecting it, and many have dug around for the older more expensive models that came with built in backwards compatibility. Perhaps the future is looking a lot brighter.

A patent has been filed that would offer a specific method of emulation on the PS3 Cell. The chip would iterprit the specific code that comes from the PS2′s Emotion Engine and could lead to complete emulation of the Playstation 2. Now weather or not this would work with all game is to be determined.

It leads one to wonder if Sony is working on this to specifically launch a “Games on Demand” feature for Playstation 2 titles. Either way, it’s going to work. How they’ll use it? We don’t know.

  1. I’m a fan of this header image. I still think Sony made a big mistake by not making backwards compatibility the standard. Think about how many people may have not switched to PS2 had it not played PSX games.

Hi Kes,If the trouble is a username/password challenge and you can not log in then I’m not sure what’s wrong. I tested it a second ago and it seemed to be working fine. Could you check yet again and see if it’s ok now?
