slim

It’s time to get that rumour wheel spinning again, as hopes for a release of the “PS3 Slim” are ripe once again. This time it is pointing towards two Taiwanese manufacturing companies that have reportedly been awarded contracts to build the new slimline model, with half of the orders going out to the Taiwanese group Foxconn and the other to Pegatron. Even better, it is said that the units are expected to commence shipping in early July in order “to cope with expected summer vacation demands.” Could this mean that the PS3 slim will be officially released this summer?

The first of the packs, dubbed “Demons of the Badlands” is slated to arrive August 13. Costing 800 Microsoft Points ($10), “demons of the Badlands” adds, “a destructive single-player mission arc that takes place in a new Mars landscape outside of the game’s expansive world.” Read more… »

teaser

I don’t know if you guys remember, it was so long ago, Kojima Productions put up a website that teased the faces off anyone and everyone.  Now, following suit in what they think is a great idea, Square Enix has a countdown site…and they obviously are not against torture.  The site started with a landscape and a number 4, a dragon was added, and now there is a boy riding the dragon.  I don’t know about you guys, but this teaser site hype method is driving me insane.

Yesterday word got out that Starcraft II won’t offer LAN support due to “planned technology to be incorporated into Battle.net.” Gamers around the world, including me, were left collectively scratching their heads wondering what Blizzard was up to.

Today Blizzard sent word expanding on yesterday’s announcement: “We don’t currently plan to support LAN play with StarCraft II, as we are building Battle.net to be the ideal destination for multiplayer gaming with StarCraft II and future Blizzard Entertainment games. While this was a difficult decision for us, we felt that moving away from LAN play and directing players to our upgraded Battle.net service was the best option to ensure a quality multiplayer experience with StarCraft II and safeguard against piracy. The entire backwards compatibility issue surrounding the Playstation 3 has been a burden to bear for a lot of Sony gamers. Some have bought a PS3, expecting it, and many have dug around for the older more expensive models that came with built in backwards compatibility. Perhaps the future is looking a lot brighter.

The Pirate Bay, one of the internet’s most notorious bittorrent trackers, has done the unthinkable by getting itself sold, essentially removing the foundation for its “Pirate” name. Now it’ll probably need to be called “The Bay,” or “The Perfectly Legitimate Merchant Ship Bay.”

Swedish software group Global Gaming Factory X AB will be acquiring it in August for nearly $8 million. The group promised to find a new – and legal – business model for the site to go by. Hit the jump for my reaction.

halonatalAfter taking E3 by storm, Microsoft’s ground-breaking motion-sensing tech left a few questions in gamer’s minds. Okay, more than a few, but one of the main questions was actual examples of games the technology could be used with, rather than just promotional possibilities.

zombies

I recently finished my first playthrough of Dead Rising for the Xbox 360.  I know that I’m coming to the party a little late, but after playing the game, it’s better than not turning up at all.  I can comfortably say that it was one of the most entertaining and challenging experiences on my home consoles.

Not because it was one of the best looking games or had the best gameplay, but it captured the heart of the B zombie genre without skipping a beat.  I pray to the zombie gods above that they keep that spirit alive in Deadrising 2. Read more… »
