Epicenter Studies, the development team working on Real Heroes: Firefighter is about to warm your heart.  The team behind the game that lets you step into the sweaty boots of firefighters is giving a share of the proceeds from their upcoming Wii title to the Firefighter Cancer Support Network.  Sometimes pretending to save lives just isn’t enough, so Epicenter is fix’n to save some real lives.

“We wanted to try to give back to these brave women and men who put their lives on the line every day to keep the public safe,” said Nathaniel McClure, CEO of Epicenter Studios. “This is our attempt to bring recognition and support to a wonderful organization that not only supports firefighters battling cancer but also aggressively promotes prevention and early detection.”

The game itself, expected in quarter three of 2009, is a first person game in which you quench fires with hoses and fire trucks, and break down barriers with axes and the jaws of life.  The game also includes famed voice actor John DiMaggio voicing one of the men behind the mask.  Using the Wiimote to direct the torrent of water sounds like a great use for the Wii’s motion controls.

It’s great to hear about a developer offering a portion of their profits for the greater good.  Especially in uncertain times when studios are being shut down left and right.  Let’s hope the game is a hit and that both Epicenter and the Firefighter Cancer Support Network benefit greatly.
