In early April, Nintendo’s President Satoru Iwata said that “the Wii is in the most unhealthy condition since it hit the Japanese market”.  By looking at figures from Gama Sutra this is clearly the case.  For the second month in a row, the PS3 has outsold the Wii in Japan.

The PS3 sold 108,530 units in April while the Wii only managed to sell 67,117 during the same period.  There is little doubt that this is due to the Blu-Ray release of Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children which happens to come with a demo for the yet to be released Final Fantasy XIII.

In March, the PS3 outsold the Wii, 146,948 to 99,335.

  1. Oh my. What if the PS3 really does it? Honestly, I can see it elbowing out the other consoles in other countries, but for some reason I can’t see it taking over living rooms in the US. Good luck, Sony.

  2. Listen…everyone already bought a Wii! Now that they were able to save up all the money they needed for the PS3, they are buying those.

  3. Haha, yeah like Chase said. Besides Sony is pretty big over there, so not much of a surprise really now that it’s beating the Wii.
