ACE Team’s creative use of story telling, game play and design all crammed into Valve’s Source engine is truly a product that pushes video games ever closer to an art form.  Zeno Clash is so bizarre and brutal that it is one of the most beautiful games made by any independent developer.  The game redesigns the first person shooter genre from the run and gun type to the more up close and personal melee combat.  It’s a nightmarish paradise mixed with a fantasy reality.  This game is so cunning that it breathes life into the make-believe. The one thing about PC gaming that is difficult to keep up with, are the rigorous system requirements that exsist to play many titles that are already on a console. Space Invaders is heralded as one of the first, if not the first, shoot ‘em up every created. The “invader” could possibly be argued as the most well-known game icon right up there with the pong paddle.

Taito has given Space Invaders an “extreme makeover”, and has had success on the DS and PSP platforms. Now, we are given an XBLA version, with is essentially a remake of the PSP iteration, with online play and updated graphics. Ever played Pokemon?  I never cared for it myself, but I couldn’t ignore the card game, at least for the 3 months I worked at Gamestop. Didn’t Nintendo sell a ka-billion copies of Pokemon Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald for the Gameboy Advance? Oh, and did I mention the dozen feature length movies and manga based on that yellow fuzzy uh .. thing?

The gaming industry in Europe is not having a good year and it doesn’t look like it will get any better anytime soon.  The latest blow is from a proposal put forward by the European Union which would require software developers, especially those in the games industry, to provide a two year guarantee on all their products.
