Some people don’t buy into the idea of unlockable ego-trips within games. Often earned through blowing up three enemies with one grenade or scoring an overhead kick from twenty-five yards out, these Achievements on the Xbox 360 or Trophies on the PS3 will continue to divide opinion amongst gamers. However, Microsoft’s Stephen Toulouse has gone about making his professional view rather clear.

The Dark Knight has always been a master of gracefully maneuvering the battlefield.  Unfortunately, most video game entries in the Batman universe have restricted his arsenal to a simple kick, punch, and batarang.  All that is changing with Batman: Arkham Asylum. The guardian of Gotham now flows freely from enemy to enemy, without so much as a stutter between animations breaking his fluid combos.  Hit the jump for a developer walkthrough about the revolutionary combat system. A classic mode in the world of first person shooters is that of the good old capture the flag. The frenzied gameplay that is made real when desperately attempting to score points is brought to life in Burnout Paradise in a well executed mode simply known as “Cops and Robbers”.

fallout3One of the biggest hits of 2008, Fallout 3 has seen high praise for their Downloadable Content, and this praise will soon come from the mouths of Sony fans as DLC hits the currently excluded PS3.

Bethesda have stated, “We have been working on implementing it for a while and look forward to bringing it to PS3 gamers via the PlayStation Network.  Operation: Anchorage will be released for PS3 in late June, followed by the release of The Pitt and Broken Steel 4-6 weeks apart.” Read more… »

Air Conflicts: Aces of World War II is an arcade flight sim for the PSP that aims for mediocrity, but a bevy of frustrating issues keep it from achieving even such a modest goal.

While it does have a few redeeming factors, the package as a whole feels largely uninspired, and at times, slapped together. Furthermore, it often sacrifices entertainment value in favor of an ill-conceived concept of ingenuity. Read more… »

bionic-commando

One of the most popular titles in video game history has been given a shiny new facelift for the second time in a year. Bionic Commando made the leap – or swing – from 2D platforming perfection to better looking 2D platforming perfection in 2008 and now the series has entered the world of 3D extravagance. Capcom has decided to show off just what the title is all about with this explosive launch trailer, which depicts the many environments that make up AscensionCity and how our protagonist Nathan Spencer – voiced by none other than Mike Patton of Faith No More and Mr. Bungle – causes destruction wherever he goes. Hit the jump and enjoy!

The last RPG under the Sega banner I ever played must’ve been Skies of Arcadia Legends for the Gamecube, and nothing from then until now. It looks like they’re getting back into it because Sega has released a trailer for Resonance of Fate, and without a doubt they have got one idea to focus extensively on a western market.

If hordes of zombies, tongue pulling smokers, animalistic hunters and death dealing tanks weren’t enough, then get ready for zombicidal mania 2.0, because Valve has just opened the beta version for Left 4 Dead’s authoring tools to the public.  Now that developers have warmed us up with their version of Left 4 Dead, players can alter the  heart filling story of four survivors escaping zombie paradise into a game that will literally consume you at every corner.  Sorry ‘Survival Mode,’ closed confined spaces and two tanks at once is too weak for these guns.

Now that we can expect lunatic players to throw hordes of tanks at gamers, the new authoring tools is provided through STEAM and is open to only PC players.

A lot of rumors and ideas have blasted throughout the Internet from the time Bungie departed Microsoft to venture out on their own. “Who would develop the next Halo? ” ran through many a gamer’s mind ever since. While there are some that say Halo 3 should have been the end of it, there are still plenty of gamers out there who want to see the world of the Spartan explored further.  That being said, according to Gamasutra, an entire team is being built for another sequel.

Atlus has developed a wonderful rapport with the gaming community. The spoils system (packaging extras into games), and the large amount of community interaction have created quite the bond between the publisher and the general public. I’d even make the contention that Atlus is the modern-day Working Designs.

Their latest effort, Knights in the Nightmare, is shaping up to look as unique as advertised, and luckily, this series of videos will help you understand how to play the game if you’re completely new to the genre. Hit the jump for the video, and what exactly Atlus thinks should be added to the defintion of “tutorial”. Read more… »
