Gamer Limit Banner

The last RPG under the Sega banner I ever played must’ve been Skies of Arcadia Legends for the Gamecube, and nothing from then until now. It looks like they’re getting back into it because Sega has released a trailer for Resonance of Fate, and without a doubt they have got one idea to focus extensively on a western market.

Guns. Lots, and lots of guns. In just a few minutes of trailer, there are more bullets sprayed than you see in several hours of a Japanese RPG. The whole mechanized weapon concept is generally cornered by the western market, but that’s changing.

The first look at this trailer reveals a very beautiful, pesudo-realistic art style that is almost like Final Fantasy. The reason I say almost is simply because the game is much, much darker from the get-go than most that come out of Square-Enix. There is only speculation at this point as to whether or not this theme continues to dominate the story, or if it is only a part. I suppose the girl jumping off an incredibly high catwalk to her doom doesn’t help much either…

Either way, this is shaping up to be something original and incredible. Check out the trailer below and let us know what you think!

  1. It’s a bit of a misnomer to say those things, since Resonance of Fate isn’t really a Sega RPG, it’s made by tri-ACE, a dev team who, ironically, releases a lot of their games with Square-Enix.

  2. I think it looks a bit generic, when all’s said and done.

Sega games usually suck, but I think Resonance of Fate is really quite interesting. I’m looking forward to updates.
