Square Enix’s Tetsuya Nomura talked about Final Fantasy Versus XIII in a recent interview with Famitsu magazine, revealing some new information about the PS3 exclusive.
Nomura claims that a lot of the development tools used to put polish on Final Fantasy: Advent Children Complete were used in the Versus XIII development. When Advent Children initially came out they wanted to use the most advanced tools and techniques available at the time, however the re-release got a bit of a spit shine, with the Final Fantasy Versus XIII tech meeting the standard for Advent Children Complete. This could be a hint that the graphical ability of Versus XIII will come close to Advent Children, if they can pull it off it’ll be jaw dropping.
It was also stated that the company behind the costume designs (Roen) on Versus XIII have finished the costumes for the main character and his allies. It was said that recreating the clothing designs was a difficult task due to the level of detail.
Hopefully Versus XIII will make a substantial appearance at E3 2009. We can only wait and see.
That’s so cool. Hopefully other developers will take this as a cue and invest heavily int top notch CG for cinematics. I’m tired of seeing shoddy looking cutscenes that are simply rendered in game engine stuff. Only a few games can get away this this.
I’m actually one of those games that isn’t a fan of CG. I much prefer cinematics be done using the in-game engine for the sake of immersion.
