Mistwalker’s Hironobu Sakaguchi, director and producer of Lost Odyssey and Blue Dragon, has talked about the next project in his latest blog update by revealing some vague information about the game’s direction. He goes on to add it will be unveiled this year.
“What about the game itself? Planning to basically put importance on having seamless control of the overall direction of the game, mixed with CG spectacle scenes. Controls will have a bit of a trick to it, while having a blend of RPG-type strategy and growth. Behaviors based on interaction with the situation around you…wait, I’m not supposed to say more than this,” Sakaguchi wrote.
“Sometime this year, it seems I’ll be able to announce what this new project is. During that time, we will try and post model artwork, behind the scenes stories, as well as introductions to staff who worked on the development. With all the different elements and staff putting their “heart and soul” into it, it feels different from projects until now, but in a good way. Please look forward to it.”
By sounds of it, the new project will be a new IP rather than a sequel to Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey. I loved Lost Odyssey, so I’m pretty excited about their new project.
What are your thoughts?

As long as the combat moves faster than Blue Dragon or Lost Odyssey, I’m sold. Particularly, that was Lost Odyssey’s biggest flaw by far.
Also, I’m disappointed that we never saw a domestic release of A.S.H :/
I need to get crack’n on Lost Odyssey. The one complaint I heard about the game was that story segments were too long, even for an RPG.
Yeah the cutscenes are long, but they aren’t as bad compared to Xenosaga.
Could this be his first multiplat game?
