ghostbustersthegame qjpreviewth 540x226 Ghostbusters switches publishers yet again; 360 version stalled

MCV has reported that in a last ditch move, Atari has negotiated a transfer of its publishing rights for Ghostbusters to Sony. While somewhat of a shock, its not completely surprising since Sony owns the rights to the movie’s IP, and initially sold off the game rights years ago. But what’s happening with the game?

Sony has told MCV that the release date for the game, to be released on PS3 and PS2, is still on track for a June 19 release. Ironically enough, Sony also happens to be releasing the Blu-ray edition of the original move on that same day. Coincidence?

The rights to the 360 version, unsurprisingly, still rests with Atari, who have promised a release “later on in the year”. Uh huh.

Coincidence? You decide.

Nice, now where’s that game+Blu-ray and PS3 bundle.

That bundle would be amazing… I think they confirmed the game + blu-ray a while back. But adding the console to the mix would be a good move for Sony.

Looking forward to seeing if it’s any good!

Hooray for having to wait longer now..

Haha this is really funny: “stealing a game”.

Sony gets their vengeance for Fallout 3! But who will have the last laugh? Will Ghostbusters be any good? However you look at it, Akroyd and Ramis are probably spinning in their chairs at the thought of their IP/brainchild being tossed around like a rag doll. I feel pretty bad for them.

I wouldn’t exactly call this vengeance for Fallout 3, considering you’ll probably be done with ghostbusters in 10 or less hours. But delaying JUST the 360 version sounds iffy, and I believe Sony did this just to get an exclusive for a couple of months. If this had been earlier in the development process, I bet the 360 version would have just been canned.

This is ridiculous. Sony is just being an ass. I’m honestly peeved. I want to start a petition.

Holy cow! Watch the 360 version just get the Atari ET treatment.

The press release they sent out today says this is not true. June 16th, Atari is publishing. Sony’s movie company is part of the game already btw.

nice i think it’s VERY nice to see xbox 360 start to brick up in dissapointment because of all the VERY unpleasant things microsoft have done to (would be) multi-console games, or in respect; download content/expansion/etc. The only thing I even use of microsoft is windows vista and that is CRAP. Also i’m getting VERY SICK of the 720p versions of all these crap PORTED games FROM xbox 360.. I’m also hopeing Final Fantasy XIII will completely shut down on xbox and release on PS3. If the system can’t handle the game, then the GAME IS TOO POWERFUL for your taste. Xbox doesn’t even utilize blu-ray knowing it’s the future of storage compacity. I REALLY doubt the xbox little 360 will run a 10 year life-span without getting shut-(out) before it’s end. Also I’m loving all these people with they’re reports of the red ring of death(s), hopefully Batman Arkham Asylum will be a rather “better” port than others, but atleast microsoft stalled to send theyre developement kits to square E. before Sony did, meaning FFXIII is NOT a port to PS3 from XBOX, and that’s why poor little xbox is having problems handling the space. I say microsoft is rich ENOUGH, MAKE A NEW SYSTEM….

or are they still paying for all those warrantys and failed operating systems..

    *yawn*

oh yea, do i need remind that this is the whole REASON FFXIII is being released april 2010 instead of nov 2009
