With a slew of incredible movies based on video games having graced the silver screen over the years, hopes can only be described as “highly optimistic” for the inevitable Gears Of War – a film set to create its own mark on the action genre. And, if you think that last sentence was sprinkled with a healthy dose of sarcasm, you can think again. According to the movie’s screenwriter Chris Morgan, we are actually in for a real treat with this one.
“A draft went in and we’re talking about it now and we’re budgeting it out,” Morgan told MTV. “It’s looking incredibly good.”
So, let’s just be clear here. There hasn’t been a single scene shot yet, but the budget is set to be rather healthy. Which means the film can be nothing short of spectacular, obviously.
“I think the gamer side is going to be thrilled with it,” said Morgan. “All the stuff you want to see, we put that in there and then we blow it out a little more, even. Now it’s just a matter of honing in on all of the character arcs and determining production types of things.”
As long as “the gamer side” is going to be happy, then that’s all that counts. Having Len Wiseman, director of Die Hard 4 and Underworld is certainly a major coo for the title, but you can’t help but feel just a tad cautious for this one.

I think it will probably be terrible. I wonder if the plot will actually have a point this time (as opposed to games 1 and 2, where the only real pivotal plot point was “meeting the Queen”).
hmmm… I’ll believe it when I see it.
I thought the moment with Dom’s wife was quite heart wrenching
Will almost definitely be awful. They seem to be playing up the point that they have a fairly substantial budget, but the other promising game-to-movie translations that have hyped up their financial support have collapsed before beginning anything close to production, uncluding the recently debunked BioShock movie.
Jury is still out.
The writer? Saying something that their career is based on is going to be good? Gasp!
It must be good then.
