At the end of the last quarter, Activision-Blizzard reported a revenue outlook of USD $860 million. On May 7th, the company has submitted revenues at $981 million, $160 million higher than expected.

Success is attributed to the Call of Duty and Guitar Hero series, both of which are two of the five, best selling game franchises in the U.S and Europe. World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King was also the best selling title on the PC for the quarter.  Apart from great sales, I’m sure it also doesn’t hurt that Blizzard is raking in subscription fees from 9 million World of Warcraft subscribers.

In addition to their current success, Activision-Blizzard has raised their outlook for the 2009 fiscal year from $4.2 billion to $4.3 billion.

Not surprising, Activision-Blizzard stock has shot up around 9% since yesterday’s announcement.

  1. When confronted with a recession, escape into an alternate fantasy world. Of course WoW is successful ;D

  2. Last I heard they were up to 11.5 Million after WotLK was released. Lol I remember when this little no name company came out with a neat little game called Warcraft that “copied” Dune2 the first RTS ever made.

  3. It’s no real surprise. They’re pushing out some epic titles, including Guitar Hero: Metallica, not to mention the subscription fees garnered from World of Warcraft’s 11,500,000 worldwide install base.
