If you’ve been paying attention recently, you caught the piece of news regarding 3D Realms shutting its doors.  After viewing a leaked plethora of (NSFW) Duke Nukem Forever art and even some gameplay, many sat in wonder at what could have been.  While some sit and sulk about the game with the perpetual delay, others have taken to their magnifying glasses.  It appears that the website www.savedukenukem.com was registered before 3D Realms officially closed up shop.  Click continue for more speculation.

Some believe that we are all being duped regarding 3D Realms’ muted swan song.  Has this indeed been an exploitation of the struggling economy in order to build hype around a supposedly canned game?  If we are indeed being hoodwinked, let’s hope that the folks supposedly laid off at 3D Realms are in on the joke. After hearing about the multitude of lay offs in the gaming industry in the past year, it takes no stretching of the imagination to believe that 3D Realms could bite the dust.

What do you folks think about all of this?  If this is indeed a farce, is it going to be enough to encourage enough people to pick up a copy of Duke Nukem Forever? If it isn’t a farce, how do you explain the coincidences revolving around conveniently leaked images and gameplay of a nearly complete looking game, not to mention the timing of savedukenukem.com?

  1. I called it already.
    I win.

  2. Ive always wanted to see a game secretly go gold and have the company ship it to stores for sale with out the public knowing. I think that would be really cool. I know this is extremely unlikely and will probably never happen, but Duke Nukem is the best chance at this happening.
