Hot on the heels of Sony claiming that the God of War III zipper technology was “too gory for the internet,” Raven Software is worried that the violence in X-Men Origins: Wolverine may “mislead” moviegoers. In a recent chat with Destructoid’s Jim Sterling, Raven Software project leader Dan Vondrak shared his concerns about the game’s six bladed bloodfests.
Kondrak says, “We’re actually pretty worried about the violence in the game. People might play our game and think, ‘Oh cool, we’re gonna get an R-rated Wolverine movie,’ but the movie has none of the brutality we have … we basically told Fox that the violence stays, and Fox was cool with that.”

So maybe we won’t get to see Hugh Jackman tear off an enemy’s arms and throw them into the turbines of a jumbo jet, forcing it to careen into a school bus filled with velociraptors in the movie.* However, such brazen brutality was already in development at Raven Software, as they had been working on the ultimate Wolverine game even before they knew it would be tied into the movie.
Well, you gotta hand it to Raven Software for sticking to their guns… and their razor sharp adamantium claws.

*editor’s note: X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not guaranteed to contain jumbo jets, school buses, or velociraptors.
This just makes me think that the devs behind this game are actually treating it as a game on its own and not just a tie-in cash cow. Looking foward to it.
Lots of hype building around this, will it be worth it?
No one should think a game is going to be exactly like the movie… just like people shouldn’t assume movies will be exactly like the book. All three mediums have different goals and therefore they shouldn’t be the same.
