I personally enjoy both games, but with the tighter Hammer-ons and pull-off window in rock band, I think it provides more long term challenge. Their on-disk releases weren't extremely challenging (well except for painkiller and visions, YIKES!) but with their DLC, they have been able to release songs that I still cannot perfect.

I personally prefer that method. Keep it party-friendly on disk, and release some killer difficult DLC for those that crave a challenge. I mean rock band has Yngwie!!! That should keep you busy for a little. with darn near 700 songs, i guarantee you will find some difficult ones to give you a challenge.

I just wish they would have released a saxophone peripheral for "Turn the page" in Guitar Hero Metallica.

I personally think that Guitar Hero already gives Rockband a run for its money. That should give them the ability to not focus on casual gamers... which is what Rockband was originally good at. Guitar
Hero has the fans to support difficult songs so they should take advantage of that and go for it. Forget making the game for casual gamers... that's what beginner and easy modes are for. The expert level should be HARD.

Nice article; I like Metallica's song list, but Guitar Hero needs to find a new genre (popular Metal doesn't count).
