He’s been ridiculed by gamers everywhere, he’s even been disbarred from practicing law, yet somehow Jack Thompson keeps acquiring soap boxes. His newest platform comes in the form of the ScrewAttack Gaming Convention, coming July 4th weekend. Jack Thompson is set to debate Joystiq legal columnist Mark Methenitis. Click continue for a video and more mayhem.
While I believe that it would be more interesting for Jack Thompson to debate video game restrictions with a figurehead from Sony or Microsoft, or possibly a child molester, this should make for an interesting discussion. That is, if it doesn’t reduce to Thompson aggressively drowning out the Methenitis by speaking over him.
Besides this epic debate, Thompson will also be participating in a “pre-screened” Q&A session. “Pre-screened” probably meaning that ScrewAttack is trying to ensure there are no trolls in the crowd with a satchel full of flame bait.
This debate will likely be a well mannered yet boring conversation about gaming restrictions, or an egotistical shout-fest that will make the audience cringe in embarrassment. With the event being described as a “verbal brawl,” it will be interesting to see if Jack Thompson falls back to his hot tempered habits.
Giving Jack Thompson attention: good or bad?

Bad!
I wish he was arguing against Jim Sterling. That would rock my world. Well, anything involving Jim Sterling rocks my world.
I think it’s an interesting idea to have Jack Thompson there… but I have this feeling that he won’t let Mark get a word in edgewise and as soon as Mark says something he doesn’t like, Jack will walk off prophesying the death of anyone who has looked at a video game.
They’re not ‘giving’ Thompson attention. Thompson already proved that he can make his own attention! He doesn’t need their help! ScrewAttack is trying to allow him to show his true face to the public, without the media’s censorships and stuff.
