Of the two new Halo comic series that Marvel announced at this year’s New York Comic Con, Halo: Helljumper has been slated for a July release, 1Up reports.

Set at some point prior to the events of Combat Evolved (i.e. Halo 1), Helljumper will chronicle the exploits of a squad of Orbital Drop Shock Troopers.  Though the precise date at which the story’s events are set to unfold has yet to be revealed, the mention of a brief cameo from everyone’s favorite Spartan-II would imply a thirty-five-year window between ca. 2517 and 2552, with possibilities obviously weighted in the direction of the latter.

The five-issue story will be penned by Peter David with art by Eric Nguyen, hopefully managing to stick to a better schedule than the train wreck that was Uprising’s release calendar.

  1. Halo comics? Really? *Beats horse*

  2. Cloud…I think that horse is dead.

  3. What ever happened to Uprising, remember being quite intrigued by it as it was written by Bendis, who can do no wrong, then completely lost track of it.

  4. @ Paul: I’m not surprised that you lost track of it, its release schedule was pretty badly mauled. It was originally supposed to begin and end before Halo 3′s launch, and serve as a bridge between the second and third games – but as it turns out the final comic didn’t actually hit stores until just seven days ago (if you can believe that).

I don’t know what the frak prompted them to string its four issues out across a *year-and-a-half*, but if you’re still looking to pick up or finish the series, Amazon’s taking preorders for a trade paperback due out this June (just dump ‘Halo Uprising hardcover’ or something similar into the search field, it should be the first item that it kicks out).

  5. I will still never be able to understand what made Halo’s disjointed story so infatuating for people. Can anybody spell this one out for me?

  6. @Tim

Those people were saturated with beer. I was a victim myself.
