You remember those old Xbox Platinum Hits value games that Microsoft started selling for the original Xbox? And how the box art took up approximately 1/5th of the front, surrounded by gaudy border? Well Microsoft has now apparently had a change of heart with the 360 Platinum Hits.
Kotaku reports one of their community members recently stumbled upon some fresh versions of Xbox 360 Platinum Hits games at a Target in NY. The redesigned packaging for these budget titles makes them a little less of a shame to have stuffed into your collection.
Who knows why this alternative packaging ever started? I believe Sony started the trend with their Greatest Hits PSX games, and their poop green border. It was probably to make the reduced cost games appear as a “collector’s item.” Hopefully we see more publishers moving away from the old trend of punishing thrifty gamers with terrible looking packaging.

Sexy!
They don’t want to discriminate against people with sight disabilities. Now everyone can enjoy the beeeautiful art work.
Looks better than the PS3 Platinum boxes.
I prefer the old school puke green PS1 greatest hits
I think the current PS3 platinum boxes are horrible, I must say that the 360 versions are fairly pleasing to the eye.
I really just can’t stand having a Greatest Hits package sitting on my shelf. I think it’s the collector perfectionist part of me speaking, but I have Final Fantasy VIII and X as the only two Greatest Hits games I own, and I really feel the need to repurchase them in attempt to clear my collection of these eyesores.
@Chris
I think the US platinum ones were different the UK ones hahaha.
I’m with Robert on this one.. from a collectors point of view the ‘hits’ package design is just an eye sore that is really not even necessary
