A recent Bethesda press release reveals that Oscar-nominated actor Mickey Rourke is set to voice the lead role in their upcoming military game, Rogue Warrior. Rourke’s tough-as-nails voice will be bringing Richard “Demo Dick” Marcinko to life, the author and main character of the novel on which the game is based.
“Mickey Rourke was our first choice to play Marcinko in Rogue Warrior,” said Todd Vaughn, Executive Producer of Rogue Warrior. “He absolutely, one-hundred percent captures Marcinko’s raw and gritty personality.”
Raw and gritty pretty much sums up any role Rourke has ever played. The man sounds like he gargles glass shards and Jack Daniel’s every night before turning in and smoking 3 packs of cigarettes in his sleep. The news of the esteemed actor making the leap into the video game is warmly welcomed. I’m getting goosebumps thinking about a Marv-like narrative tying together the entire game experience.
The premise of Rogue Warriror is that “Demo Dick” is sent on a top secret mission to interlope with North Korea’s arms race agenda. Along the way infiltration of the USSR is required in order to neutralize a devastating new technology. Throw in a robotic, extend-o arm and you’ve almost got Bionic Commando.
The game is releasing for 360, PS3, and PC in late 2009, so keep your eyes and ears focused on Rogue Warrior.
