This year Capcom managed to ship over 1.5 million copies of Street Fighter IV and sell over 1.5 million copies of Resident Evil 5. Despite the company’s current success, times have not always been well for Capcom.
“Five years ago Capcom was at the very bottom of the videogame industry and it was left up to me to think about how we were going to get ourselves out of this pit,” said Keiji Inafune, Capcom’s head of R&D
Inafune has credited the publisher’s revitalization to their concentration on greater access to international markets.
“At the time I realized one of the key words we had to focus on was ‘globalization’ and being able to sell our games on a global scale – not just Japan – was going to be one of the things to help us out of this pit.”
He continued on to say that, Capcom will continue to search for growth on the international market and that greater growth will come from a greater understanding of Western markets.
“It’s going to have to be an ongoing process and we’re going to have to work at it in order to get it out to the maximum number of gamers”

I’m glad they’re doing better than before. If any third party publisher needs to live on, I’d say it’s Capcom.
