With the announcement of Spirit Tracks for DS, and Majora’s Mask on the Virtual Console, it seems that Nintendo are going Zelda crazy. But apparently Ninty have yet another announcement to make.

Game Focus received an email last night from one of their Japanese Nintendo contacts revealing something extremely interesting. He allegedly claimed that a Wii Remake of the best selling N64 game, Ocarina of Time, is on its way to the Wii. Nintendo are set to announce this around April 5th, along with the launch of the DSi in America.

Lets take a moment and think about this, with New Play Control! Series games being released left and right it makes me think that if a Ocarina remake was on its way, would it play the same as Twilight Princess? They’d have to muck around with the game a lot to make it work. On top of that, will it be a straight port, or a complete graphical makeover? I’m leaning towards the latter, because a straight port already exists on the Virtual Console. What are you up to Nintendo?

Don’t get your hopes up yet Zelda fans, I’m not sure if Game Focus is entirely reliable. But I guess we’ll find out on the 5th.

  1. Give me Gamecube controller support or give me death! I enjoyed Twilight Princess on the GCN more.

  2. A remake would just be the same as twilight princess but with less stuff to do like mounted combat. Surely they are better off making a new game?

  3. I prefer Ocarina to Twilight Princess really. I’d love to see a remake, but if the visuals arent enhanced whats the point? I have it on the GCN Zelda collector disk.

  4. This is sticky business, but I’ve got my ear to the ground

  5. Really not overly excited about the prospects of this, remakes never particularly fill me with an abundance of joy. Would you want to hear an announcement of “Due to popular demand, we have taken a team who was working on a new and innovative title, scrapped that, and now they are remaking an old game, maybe adding one or two scenes, but making it pretty.” But yeah, I’m just an old cynic, I’ll get back to my hut.
