With the release of Terminator Salvation just around the corner, it is refreshing to hear about the film without a reference to that Christian Bale rant – oops. Gameloft, who are responsible for the highly-acclaimed Assassin’s Creed mobile game, have announced a licensing agreement with The Halcyon Company to bring us an official Terminator one. Released on May 22, the game will arrive when the movie debuts in theaters.

“The Terminator franchise is one of the world’s most recognized brands and Gameloft is pleased to create the game that brings the excitement of the movie to your fingertips,” said Gonzague de Vallois, Gameloft’s senior vice president of publishing. “The film provides an optimal environment for our new game and will capture the thrills of the sci-fi adventure for Terminator Salvation fans worldwide.”

So, mobile gaming is really earning its stripes in 2009. The quality has certainly stepped up a notch since the iPhone and iPod touch were released, anyway. It will sure be interesting to see how the dreaded movie franchise to game scenario works out here. Is this going to be just another cash-in or something that further enhances the platforms growing reputation?
