When the dust settles on the single player campaign and you put down the controller you realise you have just been part of something very special. Killzone 2 may not be the most innovative title you’ve ever seen, but it is the most polished shooter of this generation, standing heads and shoulders above its competitors in almost every area that matters.

The first epic dropship ride down to the surface of Helghan is just a taste of the visceral thrill ride than Killzone 2 has in store, when things are hectic in Killzone, you’ll find you barely have any time to think, grenades explode around you, your ISA comrades scream for support, the Helghast bear down on you with deadly intent, smoke from countless fires will obscure your vision, debris showers down on you after a stray rocket pounds into the building beside you. This game immerses you in a brutal conflict with no subtlety, Helghan is hellish. Read more… »

The Punch-Out! series has always been known for offering a selection of charming, glaring stereotypes to beat the snot out of you.  Fighters like “Vodka Drunkenski” and “Great Tiger,” offer a glimpse to a past where Japanese game developers’ naive racism made people say “aww,” and not “arrgh!”  Punch-Out! for Wii has a new fighter in the mix, but whether he’s a stereotype is up to you to decide.  Hit the jump for the video. l4ddlcIt has been confirmed that Valve’s white knuckle zombie apocalypse game Left 4 Dead will be releasing DLC on April 21st.  This news comes after learning that the “Survival Pack” DLC will be free, and will be simultaneously infecting the Xbox 360 and PC.  Even though CVG’s recent news only highlights the 360 version, it is to be assumed it will also be releasing for PC April 21st, as Valve has not said otherwise. Alright, I’ll admit it. I’m a bit of a JRPG tragic.

There, I said it. I’m not ashamed of it. But who can blame me? I grew up with some of the best console RPG titles to ever grace the chips of a cartridge. Final Fantasy, Chrono Trigger, Phantasy Star, Secret of Mana – the list goes on. Every generation since the NES has given gamers a plethora of fantastic stories, great characters, and extraordinarily eccentric villains. What fan could forget Kefka from FF3? Read more… »

Is the game as brilliant as the film series? Read on to find out.

Kodu is Microsoft’s newest attempt to squash a rival’s attempt to popularize a new genre. It’s billed as a “programming language for kids”, and allows user-created content. Microsoft claims that Kodu is not like Little Big Planet in any way, but it’s a bit odd that it was only announced right after Little Big Planet launched. Let’s be real there: Microsoft wants a Little Big Planet killer, and so far, it doesn’t look like Kodu is it. My prediction is that it will only appeal to a niche group (young aspiring programmers/techs), and won’t be quite as sucessful as Microsoft contends. Read more… »
