lichkingIt appears that World of Warcraft Director Jeff Kaplan (known as “Tigole” to the community), is leaving Azeroth to help out on Blizzard’s new yet-to-be-announced MMORPG.  Though the team’s director is shifting positions, the World of Warcraft will remain unchanged.

Jeff Kaplan had the following to say to the WoW community regarding the change:

“I wanted to take a moment to let the community know that I’ve switched roles here at Blizzard to work on our upcoming, unannounced MMO. World of Warcraft has been such a central part of my life these past six and a half years, and it’s success would not have been possible without the tremendous community around it, so I wanted to say thank you to all our players who’ve shared this amazing experience with us so far.”

Very heart warming words from Jeff here, and I’m sure there was plenty of [/cry]ing and sorrowful [/goodbye]s.  What the unannounced MMO actually is has been speculated over for some while.  Is it perhaps a continuation of Blackthorn (seriously, I wish), or “Galaxy of Starcraft?” Only time will tell, and that time will probably be Blizz-Con.

It’s a bold move for Blizzard to alter anything involving the core team of their bread and butter WoW franchise, so this move must be evidence of the work and polish they are looking to put into the new game.

Anybody getting excited?  Any guesses?

  1. WoW was quality, so I can’t wait. Blackthorn! Awesome!

A guess would be “Lost Vikings, a team based MMO”

  2. God I loved me some Lost Vikings

  3. What did you think of Lost Vikings 2? Also, the trio is featured in WoW, so it’s not like the idea is unwarranted :D

  4. I love the homages that WoW plays to pretty much everything (You ever thought of how hard it would to name everything in an entire world?)

As for Lost Vikings 2, I haven’t even beaten the first one, so no idea.

  5. Hmmm Blizzard spawning another MMO, not entirely unexpected. Also the grind reference in the article’s title ate away at my soul a little bit. Sigh… all those hours…
