I’m sure you all remember the Skate 2 “unlock” download content. For $5, you could unlock every secret item in the game. Nothing new was added for the unlock, it’s just for people who don’t feel like beating the game. Well, this just showed up on the download content circuit this week: Burnout Paradise Time Savers Pack ($4.99) “Pressed for time? Love the cars? Want to have them all NOW? This one’s for you.” My question is: what happened to cheat codes?

Has EA effectively put the kibosh on cheat codes? I suppose the plan is to test the waters, and include it in any of their future titles. I remember the days when you did want all of the characters, or cars in a game, so you just looked on GameFAQs for a simple cheat. Has anyone out there in Internet World actually bought this?

I’m surprised this hasn’t been thought of sooner, specifically at the inception of DLC.

  1. To be honest, anybody willing to pay for this stuff deserves to lose their money on it.

Soon it’ll be: “Stuck on that tricky boss? pay a few quid for this one-shot-boss-killing-gun and you’re sorted!”

    yikes

  2. In the future of gaming skills will be overtaken by the ability to pay for progress. “I spent over fifty hours playing Burnout, but I finally unlocked everything” “You suck, I just bought everything in less than five minutes”

You have to pay for Mirrors Edge walkthroughs , too.

Soon it will be” You buy the disc for 59.99, then we’ll put some content on it for an extra 20(video game not actually included in prices)”
