While Activision may be taking back E3 this year like a rejected ex, the Blizzard component of the company confirms that it will not be so accommodating. Blizzard recently made this announcement regarding 2009′s Electronic Entertainment Exp:
“Blizzard Entertainment will not be attending or participating in E3 2009.”
2007’s FIFA 08 was a fantastic football game. This was the first time in a long time that the words “FIFA” and “fantastic” could be used in a sentence, the improvement in the series immense but greatly overdue. While Pro Evolution Soccer never quite made it through the vetting stage of so-called “next generation” gaming, EA Sports bulldozed the door down and made itself at home. Konami was left to lick its wounds and wait – both games release new additions yearly – while football fans everywhere suddenly decided that FIFA was the hardcore choice. If you’ve never heard of Bubble Bobble, go google it. Created by Fukio Mitsuji, this lovable game follows the adventures of two dinosaurs named Bub and Bob, as they blow bubbles to smite their foes. The original was hailed for it’s classic arcade gameplay, co-op, and 100 level longevity. Wiiware is getting a remake, complete with all original 100 levels and an additional 300. 2008 was an amazing year for the shooter genre in the gaming industry. With the release of Gears of War 2, Call of Duty: World at War, and many others, there is no doubt in my mind that 2008 was a great year.
The Mortal Kombat franchise has been one of my favorite in the fighting genre. Sure, it may not sport the most innovative gameplay or the best graphics, but none of that matters when gameplay is this fun, and with a variety of unique characters and moves, you need nothing else to enjoy this old classic. I remember buying this game back in 1997 for my SNES and playing the hell out of it. My best friend and I had tournaments to see who the best on the block is, most of us even learned all the Fatalities overnight. Now that the game has been released over Xbox Live Arcade, the game now offers a few new obvious editions such as online play. That said though, how does it fair on this generation-console though? Come this spring, Valve will sink it’s blood stained, diseased teeth into Left 4 Dead users on PC and 360, spreading a DLC infection. So if your Left 4 Dead experience is starting to feel about as fresh as a bloated, rotting corpse in the July sun, this DLC may be just what you need to resurrect the game’s lastability.
The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess had a lot to live up to. Since the release of Ocarina of Time, people wanted a game that was just as good, a feat that was nearly impossible. Nintendo gave them The Wind Waker, and while that is a fantastic game, it didn’t quite satisfy; fans wanted an adult Link, they wanted a darker, more mature game. When Twilight Princess was first shown, people had heart attacks. Was this the Zelda game they were waiting for, a game like Ocarina of Time? The answer to that question, is yes… and no.
