Following the announcement last week that Hideo Kojima will be delivering a keynote speech at GDC 2009, it has now been confirmed that the Metal Gear Solid creator will also be recognized with a Lifetime Achievement Award.

Having worked in the industry for over twenty years, Kojima is one of the most recognizable and well-renowned figures in gaming. His work on the MGS series has influenced a countless number of titles, with its high-octane action being counter-balanced by an emphasis on stealth and complex storytelling. Rarely has a protagonist’s journey been taken into the hearts of so many players the way Solid Snake’s has; it’s a credit to the quality of the series.

His keynote delivery will be called “Solid Game Design: Making the ‘Impossible’ Possible” and is expected to outline Kojima’s experiences in game development, with advice on the best ways to go about making the boldest, most successful titles possible.

Of course, Hideo Kojima is famous for his quirky sense of humour, and the word “solid” in the title can’t fail to draw a wry smile from anyone lucky enough to have enjoyed what he has done for gaming. Here’s hoping for more characters like him to help push videogames even further forward in years to come.
