With many other gaming sites just covering a few games for each platform, it’s hard to tell what is really coming out in 2009. 2009 is a rather odd year for exclusives, as the Playstation 3 and 360 are sharing a lot of big titles. This also looks like it’s going to be a big year for the Wii, with a few blockbuster mature titles sneaking in with some dynamite casual games.
Without further ado, here are the most anticipated games of 2009 for the Playstation 3, the Xbox 360, and the Wii.
February 27th US
What more can be said about this title other than it is primed to blow Halo and Call of Duty fans away. Set in a desolate gritty planet where war has destroyed most traces of humanity, Killzone 2 promises to deliver “Hollywood Realism” gameplay. If there are enough multiplayer components, and the game ships without any glitches or problems, this could be the hottest shooter of 2009.
(Playstation 3 Network)
Ever wanted to control a single unit in a real time strategy game? Now, you can. In the wacky world of Fat Princess, cartoonish soldiers fight to rescue their princess, who is too obese to run away. Enemy players can give more food to the enemy princess, so that she will require more soldiers to carry her back to safety.
Uncharted 2: Among Thieves
Q4 2009 US
Following the highly successful Naughty Dog production Uncharted, Uncharted 2 seeks to cement itself as a brand name franchise for the Playstation 3. Promising a darker look at Nathan Drake, the subtitle “Among Thieves” looks like it is really going to emphasize how Nathan may not be such a role model after all. Featuring new stealth elements, and a bold claim of no loading screens, Uncharted 2 might just be a must-buy action title this year.
God of War III
Q4 2009 US
The first time gamers may have ever heard of God of War III was when they read about David Jaffes over-zealous reactions to seeing his creations’ gameplay for the first time. Little is known if Sony is going to vastly improve on what the God of War franchise already has. There are rumors of a coo-op mode, and Sixaxis control. Most likely this game will be as well received as it’s predecessors, but with little known regarding improvements to the franchise, we’ll just have to wait.
TBA 2009 US
Strong comparisons are drawn between Heavy Rain and Indigo Prophecy. A realistic journey through a persons psyche, this dark thriller promises to be an entirely different game experience. New technologies are being employed to handle hair and face effects, and quite frankly, the game looks incredible.
White Knight Chronicles
TBA 2009 US
Opened to mix reviews in Japan, this seemingly run of the mill RPG is getting a lot of buzz in the western world. Enemies sometimes will be so large, that one of them is a giant turtle with a city on his back. WKC is very similar to Phantasy Star Online, which is a 4 player online action role playing game. While this has the makings of a niche title, it may be a breath of fresh air for coop RPG enthusiasts everywhere.
