As you all know the first F.E.A.R while being a well-rounded game, garnering 9s at most publications, failed to generate any real success on the consoles. The game’s story was focused around the F.E.A.R. squad, a group of commandos, yourself, a genetically modified supersoldier, and a mysterious young woman named Alma, who also happened to be a ghost. With F.E.A.R. 2 on the horizon, Gamerlimit is taking a look at one of this year’s heaviest shooter hitters, telling you why it’s important not to miss it, and why it’s going to be so much fun kicking ghost ass this February. Everyone who’s ever lifted up a controller, or set hand to a mouse, to play a game knows that some games are good, some games are bad, and some games can be so enthralling experience that they defy any such label. Those are the games we find ourselves playing when the alarm clock buzzes at six in the morning, and we realize we forgot to sleep. Those are the games that drive us to become what we are: gamers.

Playing the first F.E.A.R. was a lot like walking away from eating sushi for the first time. You’re pretty sure it was good, but you’re not exactly sure what you ate. At the end of F.E.A.R., I was confused as to what type of game I had played. Had it been shooter, action, or horror? Where did these people come from?
The blending of genres in any entertainment medium is risky because you have to do all of them well AND merge them seamlessly. That was my only issue with F.E.A.R. It performed at both genres exceptionally well, especially with the enemy AI being irritatingly good at their jobs. But when it came to marrying them, the scares seemed slightly removed from the action, and vice versa.

Fresh off of their claims for PS3′s version of Oblivion that “memory constraints” limited the amount of content it recieved, Bethesda Softworks give more bad news for Fallout 3 owners. When asked if the PS3 version of Fallout 3 would be given DLC at any time, a simple “Not at this time, no” answer was given by producer Todd Howard. Read more… »

Metallica may be limiting most of their touring to Europe these days, but they have graciously decided to share the full Guitar Hero songlist with everyone. If you haven’t been following the games development, the game feature about 60% Metallica songs and 40% songs by musicians they admire.

Innovation is something that hasn’t exactly been commonplace in First Person Shooters in recent years. It seems like we’ve been busy picking off Nazis and Aliens for eons, that that it’s impossible to do anything else within the genre. Mirror’s Edge sought to dramatically change the conventions we hold for what a FPS can and should be. Read more… »

Len Wiseman in a recent interview with Bloody Disgusting released a few interesting tidbits relating to the Gears of War Movie he is directing.

By accident I found an early gameplay video of 2D Boy’s “World of Goo” last year. I immediately bookmarked the video and would frequently check in on the World of Goo website to see just how much longer I would have to wait before I could play the quirky-looking little game for myself. When I finally got my hands on the title, I was very pleased with what I saw. I waited a long time–and the wait was most-definitely worth it.

As I’m sure any gamer will tell you, Resident Evil 5 is one of the most, if not THE most anticipated game of 2009. Set to release on Friday the 13th in March, Capcom has tremendous hype to face after its predecessor was voted game of year by Spike TV, Nintendo Power, Game Informer and even Japan’s ultra-critical Famitsu, and has even landed at number one of IGN’s Top 99 Games of All Time list. However, with the RE5 demo release just one mere week away, many gamers are turning off the lights, cranking the sound, and screaming like six-year-old girls in frightened preparation. And let me tell you, this little six-year-old girl needs direct injections of RE5 into his veins.
