trauma

When the first Trauma Center, Under the Knife, was released for the Nintendo DS all those years ago, it was a cult hit: removing tumors with the stylus was an amazing experience that anyone without a weak stomach could get into. When the game was re-released for the Wii at launch, Second Opinion became more refined and even more entertaining. Now, a completely original title has been released for the Wii, and it’s just as good as the last, if not more so.

phantasystar

Phantasy Star Online is and always will have a special place in my heart. I am not sure how long I played Phantasy Star on the Gamecube, all I know is that I loved every second of it and spent many hours spent killing monsters and gathering loot.

I longed for a sequel to the game that reinvigorated my love for RPGs. Unfortunately a sequel did release, but in the form of Phantasy Star Universe. While Universe was not a bad game and did improve upon the lackluster campaign and story of Online, it did not seem to recapture the magic that permeated throughout Online. You can continuously carry over your skills from shooter to shooter and feel right at home. That’s not the same with other genres. Action games can be drastically different. RPG’s all differ, at least to me. I guess the closest genre to shooters in the carrying over of skills is the new hype around music games. But for me, role playing games have always been my kryptonite.
