19: Other useful tips.
Other useful tips, a series of small tips that can give you the edge in battle.
~ If your caught reloading, if you quickly sprint you can cancel the reload, useful if you need to evade a grenade or dodge some bullets.
~ Incendiaries can be thrown further than normal fragmentation grenades and they have a very shot fuse, so when you need to kill someone fast, these are the best thing to use.
~ You can reload while you sprint by looking down the sights, tapping X 2 times and then hold the sprint button, do this correctly and your character reloads while he sprints, pretty useful if you can get used to doing it fast.
~ Frags have a 5 second fuse; if you know someone is going to be going to ____ you can throw the frag so he practically walks into it.
~ Laser Sight supposedly gives a extra 50% accuracy for your gun, making your gun much more accurate and bullet spread when spraying is reduced; a must have for SMG’s.
~ The Tar-21 assault rifle, MG36 LMG and the P90 SMG all have built-in reflex scopes, since you have a scope already on your gun, use a laser sight or a high capacity magazine instead.
~ Motion sensors can be used to monitor movement around the map, be careful; they disappear after 3-5 mins after setting them.
~ Radar Jammer might look like a good idea but you’re just letting the enemy know where you are, don’t use it – you’re only putting yourself at a disadvantage.
~ 0 bars of protection = 0% damage resistance
1 bar of protection = 10% damage resistance
4 bars of protection = 25% damage resistance
7 bars of protection = 40% damage resistance
If you want protection only have 1, 4 or 7 bars, any more and you’re just losing mobility.
~ Rank means nothing about skill – don’t be put off by a whole team full of elites, it just shows they play a lot; nothing about skill.
~ Enabling the cheat “Gijohndoe” in multiplayer makes it easier to see who’s shooting at you and from where.
~ Enabling kill cam only zooms to the area where the killing shot came from, useful to spot glitchers of campers.
~ Team survival can be enabled in TDM/Deathmatch options by disabling respawns.
~ Recoil Control Stock on LMG’s reduce recoil by 40%
~ Equipping your handgun gives you 1.5x extra speed; makes all the difference
~ Turn Radar on; go to options -> multiplayer -> radar -> on
Radar is a very useful tool on multiplayer; it provides the map layouts, the callouts, and enemy positions if a team mate has spotted him/her. It’s also a life saver if people sneak up behind you.
~ A weapon and Armour that suits you; like I said above, its all about personal preference, people will say stuff like “use the FAMAS, it’s the best” it’s the best for them, might not be for you or the majority of new players. By all means, I advise you to try out the FAMAS and see if it works for you, but remember there’s another 20+ weapons in the game, one might work much better in one type of situation than another gun. Armour as well, read the FAQ, there’s 3 armour categories, each suit different types of players; how do you play? Remember 7 bars of protection lowers your mobility but it provides you with 40% damage resistance.
~ Maps – learn the maps, biggest thing that everyone will recommend, if you know the maps you know where the main battles will always be, you will be able to move around more freely because you know the environment. Take it a step further; learn the choke points in gamemodes like Total Conquest.
~ Listen – Sound is a big thing, it keeps most of the skilled and experienced players alive. Everything makes a noise, glass on the floor, reloading, silencer, changing weapons, fast ropes, rappel, ladder, tires, metal catwalks, wooden walks, glass smashing, gun discharge; you can learn different types of guns just by the sound, gadget sounds etc. By listening to these sounds, recognising them you will get the upper hand because you will know the exact location of the enemy. It’s a hard skill to learn but if you can learn it, you will have the advantage ten-fold.
~ Stealth – don’t run out there acting like it’s a fast paced game, you will die within 20 seconds on most maps, to win and score good; you need to use stealth. I am not talking huge amounts of stealth, only engage enemies when you know you can kill them, never assault groups of enemies by yourself, always try and take enemies from behind, never go the popular ways in maps – take the long route all the time, in another term; don’t let the enemy second-guess you, never have a set-pattern.
~ Use your team – by this I don’t mean use them as a meat shield; if there talking, communicate with them; they are your best friend and possible live saver, communicate together, tell each other where the enemy is, there is no such thing as stealing kills, it’s a team game.
~ Try and make the enemy think he’s second-guessing you; if he thinks “ok then, Cleric is strafing the top of the middle building, if I go up the stairs and kill him from the bridge” after killing the same person more than 3 times from the same position, move somewhere else before they know your pattern.
~ Never spawn camp – Spawn camping will get you killed, especially if the enemy is smart or a group spawn at the same time, it might net you a few kills but you will inevitably die, something you should avoid. Moving through the spawn is a good flanking technique but don’t camp in there.
~ don’t walk around crouched – I see lots of new players do this; it’s really annoying for me because 80% of the time they die because there too slow compared to other gamers. Try and learn the centre of your screen and run around, it helps if you put a laser sight on and then move with thermals (laser goes to the crosshairs) crouching does have its benefits, it limits the sound you make and you have a faint crosshair and your more accurate, but most of the time you need to move quickly and you just cant do that when crouched, don’t turn this into a habit, learn to move fast and efficiently.
~ movement – like I addressed above, movement is a key concept in this game, you need to be a very fast mover and a fast thinker to survive, learn the maps, if your being chased – let him chase you, get him into an area your familiar with and defeat him on your terms. All in all, try and be in control of every situation
~ I am stressing that being a fast mover is good, but I am not promoting run n gunning – now this game is like a multi-cultural society; any game style will work in Vegas 2, but being stupid won’t, never ever run out into the open spraying, it won’t work well. Good players try to mix tactics with run n gunning. If your going to run out there, make sure you have sufficient cover and an escape plan, your main goal should be to avoid death and to achieve your teams objective. Don’t simply do one type of style, don’t do just run n gun or tactical, it wont work, mixing together will.
~ If someone rushes you and is strafing from side to side and he/she is pretty close to you, don’t lean from cover to shoot him, you wont make it, instead – remove yourself from cover and strafe out to get him, it’s a decent tactic and most people don’t expect it, because their crosshair is pointing at the wall where your in cover, if you strafe 3 metres to the right, you have their flank open and you wont take too much damage.
~ Don’t glitch – no one likes a glitcher, if your new and you do a glitch such as shouldering (I am not going into specifics) and someone points it out, believe them and avoid doing it, it will only end with you getting negative feedback and being booted from the game.
~ Sprint – useful, I don’t think I have to tell anyone that, the sprint feature will save you from more or less anything, make sure you don’t sprint into hot zones though; if you sprint into a fight you have little or no sprint for running out of a fight. Also remember, while sprinting you can instantly shoot, it will end your sprint but it will save you a half-second if you meet someone in a corridor and save your life.
~ Incendiaries or phosphorus (cant spell it sorry) are special explosives, they have no fuse when you throw them, once they hit the ground they will explode faster than frags, around 3 seconds, and you can throw them much further than the standard fragmentation grenades so if you need to kill a group of enemies very fast then these are the items to use. Be careful, if they hit the wall and bounce back at you, no point running…..
~ C4 – if phosphorus isn’t your thing then C4 should be, it’s the only explosive that can be used in every situation in the game, you can plant it and camp, it has the widest blast radius in multiplayer and the most durable, it can be shot or used as a chain reaction. Very useful – it can’t be thrown as far as the other 2 but in my eyes it’s more useful and makes you equipped for more situations.
~ Escape Plan – If you’re planning on holding down a room or rushing the enemy, make sure you have an escape route, if you get shot at by more than 4 people, use it – no matter how good you are, you should always use guerrilla tactics, it will keep you alive. Net yourself a few kills, back off and attack from another side, chances are there still firing at your old position.
