Get ready to get down, gamer geek style.
In terms of scale, brand recognition and raw selling power, two titles stand above the crowd of high profile games releasing in the pre-Christmas rush. I’m referring, of course, to Insomniac’s Resistance 2, released a couple of days ago and Epic’s Gears of War 2, releasing tomorrow.
To that end, retailers around the world will be opening their doors to geeks of all ages (only those over 18 if the ESRB asks) and holding midnight launch parties for Gears 2 tonight. Those who make the late night trek will, of course, be able to play the game a few hours before the rest of the world, but Epic’s sweetening the deal with the promise of special gold weapons for those who attend a launch party.
Taken outside last year’s Halo 3 launch. We expect a similar scene tonight.
Personally if I’m going to attack somebody with a chainsaw and then curb stomp their limp corpse before moving onto my next victim, meat shield in hand, I’d rather not do so with a shiny gold plated gun, but who am I to judge?
So what are you waiting for? Go grab yourself some Red Bull and Ding-Dongs because it’s going to be a long night. Don’t worry if you haven’t pre-ordered, most retailers are likely to have plenty of extra copies on hand.
For you Gamerlimit enthusiasts (both of you) who are still on the fence about this game, we’ll be getting our review up as soon as possible. So far, though, the critical response has been nothing short of amazing.
